PTO Meeting on 1/24/12, Meigs North Library

Mrs. Templeton presented the parent portal.  There is the ability to link all the kids in one household to one portal (High school and Elementary).  Teachers are required to enter the data once per week.  If you have any problems or questions about Parent Portal, please contact Joy Kilpatrick at Meigs North (334-5454).

PTO meeting was called to order in the cafeteria by Ashley Smith, President, at 6:20 PM and turned over to Anthony Smith for devotion, "The Voice of Victory".

PTO Officers were introduced as: Ashley Smith, President; Rachel Helms, Vice President; and Pam Jaynes, Secretary/Treasurer.

There was no old business.

New Business:

Given that the PTO is new, we are in need to raise funds which will enable us to server the parents/school.  All funding will be managed by the school and earmarked for the PTO.

Rachel Helms, PTO Vice President, is completing an application to VEC Shares for facility improvement grant.

Fundraiser:  The PTO will be selling T-Shirts .  A vote was taken on the design and the majority voted for the Black Design.

The PTO is enabling a citizenship award.  One child will be chosen by a teacher from their class each 9 weeks.  The criteria is based on character traits/effort.  Grades will not be a factor.  A child can only receive the award once during a given school year.  Each recipient will be awarded a certificate and picture in the newspaper.  They will also be announced on the intercom.  Southeast Bank is sponsoring this aware.  We are also looking into the possibility of giving each recipient a Tshirt ($5 cost) or medal ($3.50 cost).  The sponsor will also be recognized in the newspaper.  If the PTO decides/is able to sponsor a float in the Christmas parade for 2012, each recipient may be invited to ride on the float.

Fundraiser:  The PTO officers are looking into sponsoring a dance.  We had a list for signups to assist.  We need someone to lead this.  Ideas are:  Daddy Daughter type dance, Split K-2/3-5 (on different days), Amy for Music.  We could do pictures and sell refreshments and finger foods to raise funds for the PTO.  Micky Plaster, Amy Woods, and Ashley Schauburg have volunteered to form the dance committee.  A tentative date to be determined.

Fundraiser:  It was voted on that the money from membership drive be used to purchase Smencils that would be sold as part of a fundraiser.  The teachers stated that this is a no-brainer because these pencils go fast!! The cost is $265 and we would purchase once our balance allows.

Having a Parent Volunteer Day/Week was discussed.  Discussion was around the parents revamping the gymnasium.  Mr. Boshears is going to reach out to Don Roberts to determine steps to take to get this started.  We may be able to utilize the VEC Shares funds for this.  More to come at a later date.

A motion to adjourn the meeting was made at 7 PM by Anthony Smith.  Second was made by Rodney Jaynes.

Next meeting will be held on Tuesday, 3/20.
